Violinist Kinga Augustyn presents a program of Polish masterworks, repertoire that spans a 150-year period, from Chopin (transcriptions of his piano works) to Penderecki. Traditional forms such as the mazurka and polonaise abound in music that, as characterized by Ms. Augustyn, “sings and dances through beautiful melodies and virtuosic passages.” The evening features both acclaimed masters (Paderewski and Szymanowski) and lesser-known names (such as Wieniawski and Zarzycki), composers whose music is equally superb and well worth discovering. Matthieu Cognet will accompany Ms. Augustyn on piano.
