Described as a “Profound yearning, ecstatic wailing, and aching beauty in a rather original context,” (All About Jazz) Elektra Kurtis and Ensemble Elektra come off their US CD release of “Bridges from the East,” gearing up for a European release this summer. Join us for a mid-summer night send off of Jazz, Classical, and World music. The program will include “exuberant hybrid” compositions that discern a “fine blend of Classical and Jazz with heavy overtones of Middle Eastern harmonies…a hauntingly spiritual experience”, (STRAD Magazine, and Grady Harp, Amazon hall of fame reviewer) featuring brand new material.
“Bridges from the East” is available on iTunes , Amazon and Cd baby not available on streaming websites yet.
Bridging cultural borders and genres of music, using the essence of Mediterranean music, spiced with Polish, Greek and Arabic flavor, based in contemporary Jazz and Classical music forms, Ensemble Elektra brings a fresh perspective to creative music, fusing the modern beat of New York’s life with its members' multi-ethnic roots. The group lead by violinist and composer Elektra Kurtis, features the most unique musicians of New York’s music scene, masters of their style: Curtis Stewart on violin, Lefteris Bournias on clarinet, Kenny Davis on electric bass, and Reggie Nicholson on drums.
